Just prior to Spring Break, the JL Crowe Adventure Tourism Academy snowshoed into the Ripple Ridge cabin location to spend the night in a winter back country setting.
Meal planning, route finding, and extensive gear preparations were made to ensure the comfort and safety of the students on this adventure.
The winter camping excursion is one of the toughest outings that the academy students encounter as the groups are fully responsible with building their own dwellings (Quinzees), food preparations and personal comforts with temperatures dropping as low as -10 C in snowy conditions.
Kootenay Pass offers a rich learning environment with the historical highway pass, abundant snowpack, extensive avalanche control and the relevant ecological issues of the local Southern Mountain Caribou and Bighorn sheep herds.
