The West Kootenay Camera Club’s 21st annual Photo Show is up and running, with entry forms now available for photographers to enter photos in nine categories before the April 29 deadline.

Photographers may enter up to three prints per category, to a maximum of 10 prints total. There is an entry fee of $6 per print.

All photos — including scores and the jury’s comments — will be exhibited at the Kootenay Gallery in Castlegar from June 3 to 5, and at the Visac Gallery in Trail from June 24 to 29. The grand opening at each venue will be from 7 to 9 p.m. on the Friday (June 3 and June 24, respectively.)

For $1, people who attend the photo show can vote their favourite picture for the People’s Choice Award and enter to win a framed print.

The camera club started their “Annual Photo Salon” in 1991, in which 21 participants gave 73 entries in three categories. The show, which was renamed the “Annual Photo Show” in 1996, now draws hundreds of entries in nine categories.

The categories are nature, flowers, human interest, photojournalism, creative, architecture, portraits, old, and an open category that covers everything else.

The photos will be rated by four invited CAPA (Canadian Association for Photographic Art) or PSA (Photographic Society of America) certified judges.

Rules to pay particular attention to include “no digital alterations other than cropping or normal colour corrections,” and submitted prints must be attached firmly to a solid backing such as matte board or foamcore (not cardboard.)

Entries must be at least 8 by 10 inches up to 16 by 20 inches. This is the first time such large prints are allowed.

In fact, panorama prints may be up to 16 by 40 inches. Prints, which may be colour or black-and-white in all categories, may not be framed or glassed.

Details can be found on the entry forms that are available online at westkootenaycameraclub.com, at RHC Insuance in Rossland, Doell Photo in Trail, and Vogue Studio in Castlegar and Nelson. Submissions may be dropped off at these locations.
