Rossland girls' basketball winning streak ends at 17 games

The Rossland Secondary School girls’ basketball team’s win streak came to an end last weekend with 17 games

The Rossland Secondary Secondary School girls’ basketball team played tournaments in Creston and Princeton in the past two weeks and had great results.

The team went undefeated in the Creston tournament on the last weekend of January.

The girls defeated Sparwood 58-41, Creston 72-39 and Sparwood 85-39 in the final to win their fourth tournament.

The final also marked 17 games without a defeat.

Unfortunately, the streak came to an end during last weekend’s tournament in Princeton.

Coach Rick McKinnon explained that this was a seeding tournament for Single-A schools and the top five teams in the province attended.

The girls played the fourth-ranked Princeton team and lost 72-45.

From there, things started to look up, as the team rallied together to beat the fifth-ranked team, Fernie, 81-66.

They also defeated Fort St. James (an honourable mention team) 65 - 48.
