Red Mountain Racers preparing to host FIS race in Rossland
The Red Mountain Racers are preparing to host the FIS Miele Cup Race Feb. 24-28.
The race will bring in over 200 racers to Rossland along with their families and coaches.
The organizing committee has been meeting on a weekly basis for the past few weeks and already they can they forecast the event to be pretty big.
“It’s going to be a very busy four day race,” said Christine Andison, from the Red Mountain Racers.
“We have the entire B.C. and Alberta teams coming to compete, as well as athletes from all over Western Canada and a number of international athletes as well, so it’s going to be a neat event.”
Andison said they are busy right now trying to get all the volunteers in place and could still use more volunteers.
“We’d certainly love to have more volunteers come out, because it takes about a hundred volunteers a day to pull this off,” she said. “So definitely we rely on support from the community for these events.”
They are anticipating approximately 200 racers at the event and a total of about 400 people that will be in town for the event specifically.
“Which is always a nice bonus for the Rossland economy for sure,” she added. “They’re here for anywhere from four to six days.”
Anyone wishing to volunteer during the races can contact Andison at 362-5135 or andison@shaw.ca.
