A press release issued late Thursday night says both sides in a contract dispute at the Kootenay Savings Credit Union (KSCU) have agreed to postpone the work stoppage planned for Friday.
Jeff Bromley, of USW Local 1-405 Kootenays, said in the release that both parties are still talking and talks are ongoing.
The United Steelworkers Local 9705 (Trail) and Local 1-405 in Cranbrook, represent 110 employees at KSCU branches and offices in Trail, Fruitvale, Salmo, Castlegar, South Slocan, Kaslo and Kimberley.
In a statement released Friday afternoon, KSCU CEO Brent Tremblay confirmed talks are continuing.
"Kootenay Savings reached out to the Steelworkers Union representatives to ask the Union if they were willing to return to negotiations in an attempt to resolve the parties’ key issues. The Union responded to our invitation, and negotiations resumed Thursday and continued (Friday) morning. The mediator was not involved at this time."
The two sides went through a full day of unsuccessful mediation before talks broke off Monday night. That led to both parties issuing respective strike and lockout notices.
The union and KSCU have been at odds all year, the key sticking points revolve around pension protection and no wage increase for two years.
Bromley added in the release that no further comment will be released until a deal is reached or conversely, a work stoppage commences.
