Senator Nancy Greene Raine usually just Nancy Greene in Rossland underwent treatment for thyroid cancer last Thursday.

Darcy Alexander, general manager at Sun Peaks Resort, announced in a press release last Thursday that Raine, who is director of skiing at Sun Peaks, was having her thyroid removed in Kelowna that day and would need to “rest and recover over the coming weeks. Additional cancer treatment will begin within four or five weeks to manage the suspected spread of cancer cells.”

Raine’s brother John Greene, who is a Rossland city councillor, said last Thursday that he learned about his sister’s diagnosis about a month ago.

“She knew about it about a month ago and what I heard then was it was not really worrisome; it was very treatable,” he said.

The Sun Peaks press release was also positive about Raine’s chance of recovery.

“Nancy and her husband Al Raine remain very positive about the outcome of these treatments. Thyroid cancer is known to be one of the most treatable types of cancer,” read the release.
