Five people facing charges after Castlegar drug bust

A man from Castlegar is facing drug trafficking charges following a drug bust in Castlegar July 4.

RCMP executed a search warrant at a home in the 2600 block of 5th Avenue. Five people were taken into custody and illegal drugs were seized at the scene.

The police issued a statement at the time stating, “The drugs are being analyzed and the investigation is ongoing.”

RCMP have now released the name of one of the accused and the charges he will be facing. Andrew Lee Cancela has been remanded in custody on two counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance, and one count of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

Cancela is scheduled to appear in Castlegar Provincial Court on Monday, July 16.

Three other adult males and one adult female, all residents of Castlegar were released on Promises to Appear in provincial court in October.

None of the charges have been proven in court.
