With the winter nipping at our heals, the Rossland Society for Environmental Action (RSEA) is actively working on installing and wrapping up projects that monitor the current environment to help plan for future enhancement projects.

An environmental assessment is taking place at King George Park (Provincial Park near the Paterson Border Crossing) that includes an endangered plant inventory, GPS tracking of unrecorded trails and a wetland restoration assessment.

This project is made possible with support from RSEA members and funding from the BC Parks Enhancement and Conservation Program Funds.

The Rossland Streamkeepers have installed a ‘still well’ next to Trail Creek and will deploy dataloggers to monitor flow, temperature and conductivity.

This project is funded by FortisBC, CBT and City of Yellowknife.

Taking advantage of increased access to technology from the Midas Fab Lab, RSEA member Dirk has helped to build an open source water quality monitoring station to help to support the monitoring of Trail Creek.

Bats are important animals for our ecosystems as they are pollinators that also help control insects. RSEA members assisted in installing bat houses as part of the Centennial Wetland Restoration project and new bat houses will be installed at the Jubilee Wetland soon.

RSEA has been a registered society for five years with a mandate to support the delivery of environmental projects in Rossland and the surrounding area.

RSEA has been involved with and led projects such as the Jubilee and Centennial Wetland restoration projects and the 2017 Bioblitz education day. RSEA currently has five active board members and is seeking up to three new board members for 2018 and beyond.
