The Rossland Golden City Days Committee is excited to bring you a weekend of fun and entertainment, Sept. 8 to 10, celebrating our heritage, and we hope you’re planning to join us.

We encourage everyone to dress in heritage costume or red/white clothing to show our patriotism.

“I believe Golden City Days is important for our community because it celebrates the history of Rossland. This is an event that is just about Rossland and this small Golden city we all love. It’s about the people that have made this town so safe and welcoming, the heritage that is always present, and the location. We live in a hidden gem that deserves to be celebrated. This event is so important for our community to come together and support local business and families who choose to call this place home and is a celebration that should always continue in the years to come,” a Rossland resident states.

To lead into the weekend events, wander around our fine Rossland stores the week of Sept. 3 to take advantage of the in-store specials and sidewalk sales. Friday evening at the Miners Hall, you will be treated to a great line-up of fantastic local talent and live music at the Evening of Entertainment Extravaganza.

Tickets for this licensed event must be purchased in advance at The Red Pair Shoe Store or by contacting Lisa at 250-362-9063 or by email at old_grey_mare_55@hotmail.com.

The annual pancake breakfast will be held at the Rossland Firehall on Saturday morning. Enjoy a visit to the Fall Fair after the parade and enjoy browsing the many items entered by Rossland residents, as well as, check out the live entertainment, outdoor market, and petting zoo.

From the Lil Rippers Bike Park Clinic Saturday morning to the many events around town, you and your children will be busy with activities all day. The parade will line up at 1st Ave and St. Paul, proceed right on 2nd Ave, right on Monte Christo St, right on 1st Ave, and end at Washington St.

The food booths, featuring burgers, sausages, pulled pork, falafels, donairs, grilled cheese, kettle corn, and cold drinks, will be located in Sour Dough Alley. The GOAT and EZ Rock will be on hand to provide music &goodies.

Saturday afternoon’s Sour Dough Alley Stage entertainment includes the Trail Pipe Band, the crooner, Norm Worsfold, and the well-known Rossland band, The Best Of! The Outhouse Races go in the afternoon and will feature teams who will push, pull, and run around their home-built contraption to the finish line. Cheer on your favourite team and watch to see who wins the coveted outhouse trophy and takes it from the Rossland Firefighters.

The MOFAB Co-Ed Softball Tournament will run all weekend at various Rossland ballparks. Look for posters with information about the Huck-en Berries Mountain Bike Dirt Jump Jam on Saturday. Continuing with the sports activities, check out The Golden City Grind on Sunday. The Golden City Days &Fall Fair Committees, along with the Rossland Museum, Huck-en Berries &Kootenay Mountain Shuttle, have teamed up to provide a complimentary shuttle service to transport people between events in the afternoon. Schedules will be posted around town and at the arena.

Sunday’s activities in the Sourdough Alley Holdings parking lot feature the Community White Elephant Sale and Stake Your Claim children’s “dig for gold” event.

Join us to sell the items you no longer need, watch your children dig for the prized “gold,” bring your lawn chairs, and enjoy this social afternoon with family and friends. A spectator comments “I love Golden City Days, the excitement, the costumes, the games, and the crowds. My favourite day is Sunday, the White Elephant Sale. It is a very relaxing type of day, anyone can participate, set up a table for their merchandise and bring their chair. There is Stake Your Claim for the kids, which is always fun to watch. And then the toy run…who doesn’t like a parade of motorbikes?”

Raffle tickets are on sale at Alpine Drug Mart and Rossland Grocery. Your support of the Golden City Days raffle could win you a lift ticket to Red Mountain Resort, an 18-hole round at Birchbank Golf, a $50 gift card at Red Pair Shoe Store, or one of many other wonderful prizes, donated by our awesome and hugely supportive Rossland businesses. The GCD buttons, red &white this year, can be found at Curiosity, Red Pair, Out of the Cellar, Alpine Drugs, and Rossland Grocery.

This weekend event wouldn’t be possible without our generous sponsors, including Rossland Branch Nelson &District Credit Union, City of Rossland, Rossland News, Teck Trail Operations, Columbia Basin Trust, The GOAT, Trail Daily Times, EZ Rock, and Regional District of Kootenay Boundary, Area B.

Volunteers are always welcome, whether you have an hour to spare or more, and are a very necessary ingredient in the success of the Golden City Days weekend. Without our reliable volunteers, many events and activities would not be possible. If you have a bit of time to share, please contact Terry at terrycbrinson@gmail.com or contact us on Facebook.

The Schedule of Events will be posted on Facebook and Bhubble, once all events and activities are confirmed. Print copies will be available at several Rossland locations, as well as Ferraro Foods in Trail, the week of Golden City Days. We guarantee there are so many activities that you will be kept busy trying to see them all. We’ll see you at Golden City Days 2017.
