Rossland Rotary is very pleased to recognize two students this year for their outstanding service to the community. These students share in the Club’s vision of the importance of community service and giving back to the community.

The awards have a new name to honor and remember Rotarian Mike Pistak who passed last year. He was a Rossland Rotary member for over 50 years and said being a Rotary member: “offers us the opportunity for fellowship and to contribute just a little bit to the community and to our country”.

Seven Summits Centre for Learning graduate Hannah Kroeker was given a $500 bursary for “Service Above Self” for her participation from elementary school to present in the Rotary Interact Club, including International Service trips to Cambodia and Guatemala. Hannah provided leadership to her peers, and an excellent model of community involvement through her fundraising to benefit her community and the world.

JL Crowe graduate Lucy Beck won a $500 “Service Above Self” bursary for her ongoing participation in the Rotary Interact Club, including an International Service trip to Cambodia, her creation of art that is socially responsible and promotes awareness. She was also awarded for her work in initiating change in her school, and her active participation in the community.

Thanks to strong community support of our various fundraisers, Rotary was able to double the amount of the bursary and recognize two deserving students with the bursaries. In addition to these awards, the Rossland Rotary Club continues to host and sponsor Youth Exchange Students, and to fully sponsor students to attend the Rotary Adventures in Citizenship and Adventures in Technology programs.

The club has recently donated to the Youth Action Network, Friends of the Rossland Range, and Rossland Library. The Club continues to donate time and funds to the Rossland Museum and Discovery Center, and Nickle Plate Park projects and more.

The club is united in the vision that together we can make a difference in the community and the world. To see more about our fundraisers, programs, donations, and membership, visit us at www.rosslandrotary.org.
