The Rossland Council for Arts and Culture (RCAC) will be presenting “Echoes of Rossland, Past and Present,” a spoken word, poetry and song writing showcase at the Miners Hall on Oct. 15 2017.

This contest forms part of the Canada 150 celebrations in Rossland. It is open to residents of Canada currently residing in the West Kootenay region. The call is for original songs, poetry and spoken word. Work must not exceed five minutes in length. We are calling for submissions from both adults and youth (18 years of age or younger), as there will be a category for each.

For adults, there will be a cash prize of $150 awarded to the winners of each category: spoken word, poetry and song. For youth, there will be a cash prize of $150 awarded for the best overall performance.

All submitting artists will also receive a complementary membership to the RCAC, so you’ll be the first to know about upcoming grant opportunities for artists and cultural events going on in our community.

The successful entries will be showcased at a performance at the Miner’s Hall in Rossland on Sunday, Oct 15. If you are unable to attend, you are required to find someone else to present your work on your behalf.

Deadline for entry is Sept. 15, 2017. You have all summer to find inspiration.

Submission information available at rosslandartscouncil.com (under upcoming events), or by emailing Sam at rosslandarts@gmail.com.
