Call put out for Rossland trail work volunteers

It’s the time of the year that we call upon volunteers and prepare the BJ trails and facilities for another exciting ski season.

The dates are Saturday, Oct. 14 and Sunday, Oct. 22, 8 a.m. to 12 noon.

Below is a list of activities and required tools. The club has some tools but please bring your own just in case. Please RSVP and indicate if you will take charge of a particular task.

A special project is the completion of the roof over the targets at Biathlon. We have tentatively scheduled this job for the weekend of Oct. 21-22. We will need a number of battery-operated tools like angle grinders and drills as well as general carpenter tools, ladders etc.

Tasks

Split firewood and fill woodshed: hydraulic and manual splitters;

Reposition rental and Jack Rabbit sheds on bases: pickup truck and jacks;

Gather garbage and recyclables and take to dump: pickup truck;

Remove and store plywood (from old “greenhouse”; pickup truck;

Mount waxing profile and reinforce wax bench: Screws and portable drill;

Brush near trailhead buildings: brush saw;

Build 2’ x 2’ roof over kiosk dropbox: carpentry tools and pieces of plywood, roofing material including shingles.

Seal holes (created by installation of light fixtures) in roof of wax sea-can: appropriate sealing compound;

Clean up and store racing signs etc near timing shed;

Clean outhouses: supplies on site. Someone has to do it.

Trails

Restock firewood at Torresans and Gibbards cabins: pickup truck;

Brush trail along reservoir (old Gibbards trail): brush saw;

Brush and clean ditch along Gibbards beyond Hannah Creek: shovel, brush saw, pick axe;

Clear deadfall form proposed classic single-track trail (skidder road below Aqueduct) from Golden Queen to the top of Jeldness: chainsaws;

Biathlon

Complete roof over targets at the shooting range (to cover seven targets): carpentry tools, cordless tools;

Push out buckled roof of grey sea-can (the north one): Heavy duty jacks;

Tall Timber trail: remove big tree at the end and stumps and butts on lower single track: chainsaws;

Brush and clean ditch along Neptune Creek: shovel, brush saw, (pickaxe)
